Dedicated Disability Discrimination Lawyers in Arkansas

Helping workers in Little Rock defend their right to fair treatment

Living with a disability can be a challenge. And the workplace and job market is no exception. But many individuals with disabilities want nothing more than to contribute to society through gainful employment and are able to do so with nothing more than reasonable accommodations from a current or prospective employer. The law requires employers to make these accommodations. But unfortunately, many companies may require encouragement from an Arkansas disability lawyer to honor these obligations. The experienced legal staff at the Sanford Law Firm has ample experience handling disability discrimination claims in Arkansas and beyond. We work with employers when appropriate to secure reasonable accommodations for our clients but will not hesitate to use the legal process against companies that flout our clients’ rights.

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is an innovative law passed by Congress in 1992. This law prohibits employers from discriminating against disabled employees and applicants in hiring, firing and other terms and conditions of employment. Moreover, the law requires employers to provide reasonable accommodations that allow disabled employees and applicants to perform essential job functions in spite of their disabilities. As is the case with other types of employment discrimination, most states have passed similar laws that provide additional rights and protections to workers.

Although it initially faced resistance, recent legislation has abrogated many of the court cases that stymied the ADA’s effectiveness. Nevertheless, the ADA is among the more complicated and nuanced workplace discrimination statutes in place. Arkansas disability attorneys must have a thorough knowledge of the statute itself as well as Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) regulations and interpretive case law to effectively hold employers accountable.

With more than 60 years of combined experience, the lawyers of the Sanford Law Firm know how to get results in these types of cases. We listen to our clients and build our strategy around achieving the results they want. We fight hard for our disabled clients but are also willing to work with cooperative employers when it is in our client’s best interest.
